Suburbanisation processes within and outside the city: The development of intra-urban suburbs in Wroclaw, Poland

Summary: Based on a case study of Wroclaw city in SW Poland, this article evaluates the scale and specificity of intra-urban suburbanisation, which is characterized by intensive construction activity and population growth in peripheral districts while depopulation occurs in central areas and large panel block estates. Intra-urban suburbanisation is mainly a reaction to unfavorable suburbanisation processes, resulting in extensive non-urbanised areas within larger cities identified as potential areas for investment due to the specific nature of their territorial development in the 20th century.
