Formation and development of cavitation in a transparent nozzle with double orifices on different planes

Jinglong Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation and development of cavitation in a transparent nozzle with double orifices on different planes through a visual transparent nozzle experiment. The impact of different injection conditions on cavitation formation and development is analyzed. The results indicate that a decrease in needle valve lift and an increase in injection pressure lead to an increase in cavitation amount, which improves energy utilization efficiency and reduces harmful substance emissions. Instantaneous and mean images reveal significant cycle-to-cycle variation of cavitation in the nozzle, with string cavitation being related to the nozzle's geometry.

Experimental and numerical analysis of the spray characteristics of biodiesel-ethanol fuel blends

Limin Geng et al.

Summary: The effects of adding ethanol to biodiesel on spray characteristics were investigated through experiments and numerical simulation. The results showed that the concentration and velocity of atomized droplets decrease with distance from the nozzle exit, and the addition of ethanol can effectively improve the spray quality of biodiesel. Biodiesel has higher STP and SMD compared to diesel, and the addition of 30% ethanol results in reduced STP and SMD in biodiesel-ethanol blends.

Experimental study on dynamic injection behaviors of biodiesel and its blends in a common-rail injection system

Junxing Hou et al.

Summary: The study shows that decreasing the biodiesel ratio in a blended fuel can lead to extended injection duration and increased injection rate fluctuations. The difference of pressure peaks between pure biodiesel and blends increases as the biodiesel ratio decreases. Additionally, the average volume injection quantity gradually increases for both biodiesel and blends under the same injection conditions.

Optimization of the combustion chamber geometry and injection parameters on a light-duty diesel engine for emission minimization using multi-objective genetic algorithm

Ramazan Sener et al.

Summary: This study utilized computational fluid dynamics to optimize the combustion efficiency and reduce emissions of a compression ignition engine through shape optimization. Parameters such as piston bowl geometry and injection parameters were optimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm to enhance fuel efficiency and decrease NOX and soot emissions. The optimized design showed improved in-cylinder air utilization, rapid mixing-controlled combustion, and significantly lower emissions compared to the baseline design.

Comparative study on the effects of oil viscosity on typical coatings for automotive engine components under simulated lubrication conditions

Dongshan Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that low-viscosity oil can significantly improve the tribological properties of ta-C coatings, resulting in lower friction coefficients and wear rates under different testing temperatures. Ta-C coatings exhibited superior low temperature cycle starting performance when lubricated by low-viscosity oil, with a speculated synergistic effect between the oil and nanoscale adaptive tribofilm for achieving lower friction and wear simultaneously. The lubrication adaptability of low-viscosity oil to ta-C coatings is technologically important and provides high potential for industrial application in lubrication and wear prevention under actual conditions.

Experimental study of the effects of excess air ratio on combustion and emission characteristics of the hydrogen-fueled rotary engine

Hao Meng et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of excess air ratio on the combustion and emission characteristic of a hydrogen-fueled rotary engine. It was found that thermal efficiency increases first and then decreases with a decrease in excess air ratio. Increasing MAP can improve thermal efficiency and the highest brake thermal efficiency is achieved at specific conditions. The stability and flame development period decrease with a decreased excess air ratio and increased load.

Global Warming, Climate Change, and Environmental Pollution: Recipe for a Multifactorial Stress Combination Disaster

Sara Zandalinas et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that an increase in different co-occurring multifactorial stress factors can result in a severe decline in plant growth and survival, as well as a decrease in microbiome biodiversity. This should serve as a warning for society to take action to reduce pollutants, combat global warming, and increase crop tolerance to multifactorial stress combinations.

Early oil industry disinformation on global warming

Benjamin Franta

Summary: The discovery of a newly revealed archival document shows that the American Petroleum Institute was spreading false information about climate change as early as 1980, indicating the early use of public-facing misinformation by the petroleum industry. This suggests that commercial fossil fuel interests played a more obstructive role in climate change discourse and policy during the 1980s than previously understood.
