Energy, exergy and exergoenvironmental analyses on gas-diesel fuel marine engine used for trigeneration system

Eduardo J. C. Cavalcanti

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of a trigeneration system driven by a dual fuel marine engine through exergy and exergoenvironmental analyses. It was found that the use of gas diesel fuel reduced energy and exergy efficiencies by 87% compared to full diesel mode, but improved environmental performance by reducing pollutant formation. Further recommendations were proposed for controlling pollutant emissions and enhancing exergoenvironmental performance without significant modifications to the engine.

Sustainable enhancement of district heating and cooling configurations by combining thermal energy storage and life cycle assessment

Silvia Guillen-Lambea et al.

Summary: District heating and cooling systems in Spain are analyzed using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to identify optimal energy combinations with minimal environmental impact. Thermal energy storage (TES) with phase change materials is found to have lower environmental loads, especially systems utilizing paraffin.

Tackling Dissipative Components Based on the SPECO Approach: A Cryogenic Heat Exchanger Used in Natural Gas Liquefaction

Eduardo J. C. Cavalcanti et al.

Summary: The article conducted an exergoeconomic assessment for a dual nitrogen expander process used to liquefy natural gas, finding an exergy efficiency of 41.89% and a specific cost of 292.30 US$/GJ for liquefied natural gas. It was identified that the expanders in the system could benefit from a decrease in exergy destruction to improve overall exergoeconomic performance.

A critical review of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with parabolic trough concentrating solar power plants

Silvia Guillen-Lambea et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the environmental performance of parabolic trough concentrated solar power (CSP) plants, specifically on greenhouse gas emissions. Existing research shows significant differences in terms of LCA scope, database, raw materials, and temporal assumptions. The study provides a framework for establishing energy policies and standards for the environmental optimization of parabolic trough CSP plants.

Greenhouse gas emissions associated with four types of fertilization for corn crops in a Mediterranean basin

Raphael Abrahao et al.

Summary: This study quantified greenhouse gas emissions associated with four different types of fertilization in corn production in a Mediterranean basin. The results demonstrate the potential of controlled-release fertilizer and pig slurry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while also addressing the issue of pig slurry disposal and lowering costs.
