Actuator fault estimation based on a proportional-integral observer with nonquadratic Lyapunov functions

J. Guzman et al.

Summary: This work proposes a proportional-integral fault estimation observer for nonlinear systems using convex structures. Nonquadratic Lyapunov functions are employed, leading to less conservative conditions in the form of linear matrix inequalities. An H-infinity performance is utilized to ensure robustness against sensor noise and disturbances, enabling the observer to estimate both state and actuator faults even in the presence of disturbances.

Fault Tolerant Control and Reconfiguration of Mobile Manipulator

Vitalram Rayankula et al.

Summary: This work proposes a fault tolerant scheme for trajectory control of a mobile manipulator under joint lock failure by reconfiguration using existing redundancy. Closed loop inverse kinematics (CLIK) algorithm is employed to transform the tip trajectory control problem to joint space control problem. Two reconfiguration schemes are proposed, one utilizing redundancy within the manipulator and another utilizing complete system redundancy to ensure the tip follows the reference trajectory despite locked joint failure. The proposed fault tolerant schemes are validated through simulation and experimental results.

Dependable Sensor Fault Reconstruction in Air-Path System of Heavy-Duty Diesel Engines

Ashkan Taherkhani et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method for sensor faults detection and isolation in the air-path system of heavy-duty diesel engines, using a second-order sliding mode observer to reconstruct sensor faults and utilizing the equivalent output error injection method and LMI tool to minimize uncertainties and disturbances. The simulation results confirm the performance and robustness of the proposed method in preventing system failures caused by corrupted sensor measurements.
