An investigation on discharge fault in buffer layer of 220 kV XLPE AC cable

Boxue Du et al.

Summary: The failure mechanism of the cable buffer layer due to discharge is investigated in this paper. Results show that the electric field distribution inside the buffer layer is distorted by poor contact condition and an increase in volume resistivity. Analysis of PD behaviors indicates that PD intensity is closely related to the contact state of the buffer layer, which can be reflected by statistical parameters.

Lijun Zhou et al.

Summary: The study focused on the partial discharge characteristics and influencing factors of cavity defects in EPR cable terminations in high-altitude areas, revealing that at -40 degrees Celsius, the discharge was mainly caused by internal discharge in the gas-filled cavity, with discharge pulses appearing in both positive and negative half-cycles, along with surface discharge traces. These findings contribute to assessing the severity of termination faults at low temperatures.
