Innovation and future of mining rock mechanics

Manchao He et al.

Summary: The 121 and 111 longwall mining methods have constraints that were addressed through the development of the AFR 110 and N00 mining methods, which allow for an integrated mode of coal mining and roadway retaining. These methods have been applied in coal mines in China, showcasing the potential for intelligent and unmanned development in the equilibrium mining method.

Numerical study on the formation of pressure arch in bolted gravel plate

Xiaoqing Wang et al.

Summary: A study was conducted using a sophisticated model and 3D particle flow code to explore the formation and influencing factors of pressure arches in bolted gravel. It was found that pressure arches are formed through interlocking between gravel particles, providing stability for the gravel below. Recommendations were made for rockbolt support in highly fractured rock in mining roadways based on the study's findings.

Comparative study of model tests on automatically formed roadway and gob-side entry driving in deep coal mines

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: The AFR technology by RCBG effectively strengthens the roadway roof, cuts off stress transfer between the roadway and gob, reduces stress concentration, and improves roadway stability. Compared to traditional gob-side entry driving, AFR technology reduces surrounding rock deformation and ensures roadway stability under higher stress conditions.

Experimental research and application of automatically formed roadway without advance tunneling

Qi Wang et al.

Summary: Longwall mining is a widely used coal mining method, but it requires considerable roadway tunnelling. A new mining method called automatically formed roadway (AFR) has been proposed to address the difficulty of controlling the rock surrounding roadways during mining. Through numerical comparisons and geo-mechanical model tests, it has been shown that the AFR method satisfies the rock control requirements in situ application.
