Oleuropein is a natural inhibitor of PAI-1-mediated proliferation in human ER-/PR- breast cancer cells

Elena E. Tzekaki et al.

Summary: Elevated levels of PAI-1 are inversely correlated with ER and PR expressions in estrogen/progesterone-responsive human malignancies. In silico molecular docking analysis identified oleuropein as a potent PAI-1-binding molecule with increased affinity compared to other olive oil constituents. Oleuropein acts as a natural PAI-1 inhibitor by destabilizing PAI-1 levels selectively in ER-/PR- breast cancer cells, leading to downstream caspase activation and cell growth inhibition.

Non-Canonical Functions of the ARF Tumor Suppressor in Development and Tumorigenesis

Nefeli Lagopati et al.

Summary: P14ARF is a well-characterized tumor suppressor involved in regulating cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in response to oncogenic stimuli. It is frequently lost through methylation in a variety of human malignancies and has been linked to melanomas and glioblastomas through mutations and deletions. In addition to its role in tumorigenesis, P14ARF is also involved in developmental processes such as spermatogenesis, mammary gland development, ocular development, and angiogenesis.

Restoration of BMI1 levels after the administration of early harvest extra virgin olive oil as a therapeutic strategy against Alzheimer's disease

Elena E. Tzekaki et al.

Summary: The study showed that administration of extra virgin olive oil to MCI patients for 12 months can increase BMI1 levels, reduce p53 levels, and normalize AD-related biomarkers. Additionally, EVOO treatment was associated with a decrease in oxidative stress and inflammatory responses.

A recurrent chromosomal inversion suffices for driving escape from oncogene-induced senescence via subTAD reorganization

Christos P. Zampetidis et al.

Summary: Oncogene-induced senescence is an important tumor suppressor mechanism, but if not timely removed, senescent cells may have detrimental effects. We found that replication stress-induced genomic instability may be a causative factor for escape from oncogene-induced senescence.
