Effect of dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH on polarization behavior of carbon steel in simulated concrete pore solution

Xiahe Liu et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of carbon steel in simulated aerated concrete pore solution at different pH and temperature is studied by in-situ corrosion potential, potentiodynamic polarization, and Tafel analysis, revealing that Fe dissolution is independent of pH and DO. Experimentally, changes in corrosion potential and resistance are attributed to a combination of anodic steel electrodissolution and cathodic water reduction in deoxygenated solutions, or oxygen reduction in aerated solutions based on temperature and DO levels.
