Exposure to phthalates DEHP and DINP May lead to oxidative damage and lipidomic disruptions in mouse kidney

Yue Gu et al.

Summary: DEHP and DINP exposure at higher doses can cause oxidative damage in the kidney, leading to increased levels of reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde, as well as elevated inflammatory status. While DEHP had the greatest impact on kidney lipidomics, DINP also induced significant changes in phospholipids diacylglycerides.

Summary: The study demonstrated that lycopene could alleviate spleen injury induced by DEHP by inhibiting pyroptosis and the inflammatory response. This suggests that lycopene may be a new strategy to mitigate DEHP-induced spleen injury.

DEHP exposure to lactating mice affects ovarian hormone production and antral follicle development of offspring

Jing-Cai Liu et al.

Summary: Exposure to DEHP during lactation reduces follicle numbers in suckling mice, alters gene transcription levels leading to decreased estradiol and increased oxidative stress. DNA damage marker and ovarian apoptosis are increased in DEHP-exposed suckling mice, with inhibition of granulosa cell proliferation. These changes result in abnormal spindle formation and chromosome misalignment during oocyte maturation.

Comparison of nanoparticle-selenium, selenium-enriched yeast and sodium selenite on the alleviation of cadmium-induced inflammation via NF-kB/IκB pathway in heart

Jing Ge et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the superior antagonistic effects of Nano-Se, SeY, and SSe on Cd-induced inflammation response through the NF-kB/I kappa B pathway in the heart. Results demonstrated that Nano-Se was more effective in reversing Cd-induced histopathological changes and iNOS activities, reducing Cd accumulation, and antagonizing Cd-triggered inflammation response in chicken hearts compared to SeY and SSe. Se applications, especially Nano-Se, can be most efficiently used for relieving cardiotoxicity induced by Cd exposure.

Lycopene attenuates di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate-induced mitophagy in spleen by regulating the sirtuin3-mediated pathway

Xue-Yan Dai et al.

Summary: The study found that DEHP exposure significantly upregulated the mRNA and protein expression of the sirtuin family, PGC-1 alpha, OPA1, Drp1, MFN1/2, NRF1, TFAM, Parkin and PINK, and SOD2 and LC3-II protein expression. These changes were accompanied by an increase in inflammatory cells, mitochondrial damage, and autophagosome formation in the spleen. Lycopene supplementation facilitated the return of these changes to normal levels, indicating its protective effects against DEHP-induced splenic toxicity.
