Zebrafish has emerged as a promising animal model for studying the toxic effects of drugs and their therapeutic efficacy due to limitations of traditional vertebrate model systems. Despite significant literature on the impact of single antibiotic exposure, there is little information on the effects of antibiotic mixtures using zebrafish as an animal model.

The emission of illicit drugs into freshwater ecosystems can lead to addiction in fish and alter their habitat preferences, highlighting the unexpected adverse consequences for individual and population levels.
