Ambient air pollutants and hospital visits for pneumonia: a case-crossover study in Qingdao, China

Jianzhong Zhang et al.

Summary: Our study in Qingdao found a significant relationship between short-term exposure to PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, and hospital visits for pneumonia, mainly occurring in the cold period. Particulate matter might be the principal reason for inducing hospital visits for pneumonia, especially in young children aged 0-3 years old.

Mitochondria damage in ambient particulate matter induced cardiotoxicity: Roles of PPAR alpha/PGC-1 alpha signaling*

Qixiao Jiang et al.

Summary: Exposure to ambient particulate matter induced cardiotoxicity in C57/B6 mice, including cardiac mitochondria damage and disrupted PPAR alpha signaling as contributing factors. Co-treatment with PPAR alpha agonist WY 14,643 alleviated toxicities, while co-treatment with PPAR alpha antagonist GW 6471 had mixed results, exerting both exacerbating and alleviating effects on different endpoints. Interestingly, the co-treatments exhibited similar regulative effects towards PPAR alpha signaling.

High-coverage lipidomics for functional lipid and pathway analyses

Sin Man Lam et al.

Summary: The rapid advances in lipidomics, particularly in analytical coverage, have outpaced developments in lipid pathway analysis due to challenges in coherent alignment of lipid identifiers and the complexity of lipid metabolic relationships. Integrating lipid pathway analysis is crucial for transitioning lipidomics from a phenotype validation tool to a hypothesis-generating tool.
