Emergy unsustainability index for agricultural systems assessment: A proposal based on the laws of thermodynamics

Felipe Dalzotto Artuzo et al.

Summary: This article discusses the sustainability of agricultural systems, highlighting the impact of entropy production rate on system unsustainability. It proposes the Emergy Unsustainability Index (EUIAS) for agricultural systems, emphasizing the importance of quantifying renewable and non-renewable resources.

Rapid quantitative analysis of nitrogen and phosphorus through the whole chain of manure management in dairy farms by fusion model

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Field monitoring technology is crucial for efficiently and accurately returning animal manure back to cropland in Chinese intensive farms with a complex rotation system. The study proposed comprehensive quantitative analysis models for determining nitrogen and phosphorus content through different dairy farms. Seasonal variation in the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in manure was observed, with intra-season models showing better prediction performance. A fusion model for two seasons demonstrated enhanced universality and stability in predicting nitrogen and phosphorus content in manure management.

Effects of substrate quality on carbon partitioning and microbial community composition in soil from an agricultural grassland

Vito Abbruzzese et al.

Summary: The complexity of carbon compounds added to soil significantly affects microbial uptake of C and the composition of the soil microbial community. Application of slurry to soil decreases microbial biosynthesis and the cumulative respiration of carbohydrate compounds compared to treatments without slurry application.
