Human stabilization of river flows is linked with fish invasions across the USA

Lise Comte et al.

Summary: The study found that changes in flow variability and seasonality are widespread in rivers across the conterminous U.S., and have favored invasions by filtering specific life-history strategies. Importantly, high levels of flow stabilization and propagule pressure interact: where co-occurring, these two drivers were associated with higher fish invadedness levels than expected based on their individual effects.

Human impacts on global freshwater fish biodiversity

Guohuan Su et al.

Summary: A new study reveals significant changes in biodiversity in over half of the world's rivers, with human activities increasingly impacting freshwater fish. Current rivers show more similarity and a greater diversity of fish species, but face challenges such as the introduction of non-native species and river fragmentation.
