Sediment connectivity concepts and approaches

Saeed Najafi et al.

Summary: In recent years, the concept of sediment connectivity has emerged in sediment management, describing the transfer of sediment between different landscape sections. There is structural and functional sediment connectivity, with disagreement and confusion remaining about conceptual and methodological approaches. More process-based studies are needed to achieve a comprehensive understanding of sediment yield and related processes.

The morphological response of the Tegnas alpine catchment (Northeast Italy) to a Large Infrequent Disturbance

Giacomo Pellegrini et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the impact of the Vaia storm on the Tegnas Torrent Basin in Northeast Italy, analyzing different instabilities caused by the event. The research shows that sub-basins with different geological characteristics respond differently to the storm, resulting in clear morphological changes along the entire channel network and highlighting the importance of considering future management strategies.

Coarse sediment transfer and geomorphic changes in an alpine headwater stream

D. Oss Cazzador et al.

Summary: This study focuses on analyzing the coarse sediment transfer processes in the high-altitude headwater reach of Rio Cordon in the eastern Italian Alps. By deploying Passive Integrated Transponders (PITs) and monitoring the pebbles' positions over a period of 20 months, the study quantifies sediment mobility and bedload volumes. The geomorphic changes caused by flood events were analyzed through high resolution DEMs, showing the impact of different flood magnitudes on sediment fluxes.

Interannual evolution of hydrosedimentary connectivity induced by forest cover change in a snow-dominated mountainous catchment

Timothee Jautzy et al.

Summary: The study simulated the spatiotemporal evolution of hydrosedimentary connectivity influenced by forest cover change in the Mont-Louis catchment over the past four decades. It found that forest disturbances significantly increased the IC of the catchment, with disturbance location playing an important role in hydrosedimentary connectivity. Additionally, forest disturbances appeared to connect hillslopes with the hydrological network by creating pathways for sediment and water.
