Impact of ZnO and Fe3O4 magnetic nanoscale on the methyl violet 2B removal efficiency of the activated carbon oak wood

Rauf Foroutan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that modified activated carbon significantly improved the removal efficiency of dyes, the adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity of MV2B by ACOW600, ACOW600/ZnO, and ACOW600/ZnO/Fe3O4 increased successively, indicating good reusability of the adsorbents in the dye removal process.

KOH-activated high surface area Douglas Fir biochar for adsorbing aqueous Cr(VI), Pb(II) and Cd(II)

Amali Herath et al.

Summary: Through KOH activation, high surface area Douglas fir biochar obtained from commercial syn-gas production shows remarkable enhancement in heavy metal adsorption capacity for Cr(VI), Pb(II) and Cd(II). The adsorption process follows pseudo-second order kinetics and the Langmuir adsorption model for all three metals. The desorption study reveals that Pb(II) adsorption onto KOH-activated biochar surface is reversible, while portions of Cd(II) and Cr(VI) adsorbed strongly onto the biochar cannot be desorbed by typical solutions.

Summary: The study found that the ACL/Fe3O4 magnetic composite effectively removed Cd2+ from aqueous solutions, with Fe3O4 nanoparticles improving the active surface area of ACL. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to describe the adsorption process using ACL and ACL/Fe3O4, with the latter showing a higher adsorption capacity.

Activation of peroxymonosulfate by iron-biochar composites: Comparison of nanoscale Fe with single-atom Fe

Zhuoqian Li et al.

Summary: A convenient and efficient method for fabricating isolated Fe single-atom catalysts (ISA-Fe/MC) on Myriophyllum aquaticum-based biochar was reported for peroxymonosulfate-based organics degradation. Compared to Fe nanoparticles anchored on biochar, ISA-Fe/MC demonstrated better catalytic performance for phenol degradation, attributed to its unique structure and atomically dispersed Fe species facilitating electron transfer for activation.

KOH-activated porous biochar with high specific surface area for adsorptive removal of chromium (VI) and naphthalene from water: Affecting factors, mechanisms and reusability exploration

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: A high-performance porous biochar (PBCKOH) was successfully synthesized through KOH chemical activation, showing excellent adsorption performance for both Cr(VI) and NAP in water treatment. The PBCKOH achieved high uptake capacities for both contaminants and exhibited multiple kinetics during the adsorption process. The enhanced adsorption of Cr(VI) was mainly attributed to electrostatic attraction, complexation, ion exchange, and reduction actions, while the high NAP uptake was achieved through pore filling and π-π stacking interactions.

Effect of carbonization methods on the properties of tea waste biochars and their application in tetracycline removal from aqueous solutions

Bin Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the influence of different carbonation methods on the properties and adsorption performance of biochars, finding that the combination of hydrothermal treatment with KHCO3 activation significantly increases the surface area and pore structure of biochar. In terms of adsorbing tetracycline, KHCO3-activated BCs exhibited higher adsorption capacity, with the dominant mechanisms being pore-filling effect and pi - pi interactions.
