Membrane receptor-mediated mechano-transduction maintains cell integrity during pollen tube growth within the pistil

Xiang Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, Arabidopsis pollen tubes were shown to sense and respond to mechanical changes via the cell-surface receptor kinase BUPS1 during invasive growth. The mechano-transduction function of BUPS1 activates ROP1 GTPase to promote exocytosis and cell wall rigidification in pollen tubes, helping cells cope with physical challenges during growth.
