2,4,6-Trinitro-N-(m-tolyl)aniline: A New Polymorphic Material Exhibiting Different Colors

Bernardo A. Nogueira et al.

Summary: The compound 2,4,6-Trinitro-N-(m-toly)aniline (TMA) was synthesized and characterized structurally, spectroscopically, and thermodynamically, considering both its isolated molecule and polymorphic crystalline phases. Different colors of the polymorphs were identified, with the yellow polymorph being a conformational polymorph and the red and orange ones being packing polymorphs. Mechanistic insights into the causes of the different colors were presented, making this investigation a comprehensive analysis of the rare color polymorphism exhibited by TMA.

Prolific Polymorph Generator ROY in Its Liquid and Glass: Two Conformational Populations Mirroring the Crystalline-State Distribution

Zhenxuan Chen et al.

Summary: The compound ROY has been studied in liquid and glassy states through infrared spectroscopy, revealing two conformer populations that correspond to the conformational preferences of 13 crystal polymorphs. The local minimum features a more coplanar arrangement of the two aromatic rings, greater pi conjugation, and lower CN stretch frequency. The rapid equilibration between the two populations in the gas phase is consistent with an energy barrier between the two minima.
