The poor prognosis and influencing factors of high D-dimer levels for COVID-19 patients

Xiaokang He et al.

Summary: The study found that D-dimer levels are closely related to the clinical classification and prognosis of COVID-19 patients, with a D-dimer value of 2.025 mg/L regarded as the optimal probability cutoff for predicting death. Advanced age, male gender, dyspnea symptoms, and some underlying diseases are influencing factors for D-dimer levels.

d-dimer and Death in Critically Ill Patients With Coronavirus Disease 2019

Samuel A. P. Short et al.

Summary: In critically ill patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019, higher levels of d-dimer were independently associated with a greater risk of death, even after multivariable adjustment. Therapeutic anticoagulation did not significantly affect this relationship.

Effect of Intermediate-Dose vs Standard-Dose Prophylactic Anticoagulation on Thrombotic Events, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Treatment, or Mortality Among Patients With COVID-19 Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit The INSPIRATION Randomized Clinical Trial

Parham Sadeghipour et al.

Summary: This study compared the effect of intermediate-dose and standard prophylactic anticoagulation on a composite outcome among COVID-19 patients admitted to the ICU. The results showed no significant difference between the two groups in terms of thrombotic events, ECMO therapy, or mortality within 30 days. The study does not recommend routine use of intermediate-dose prophylactic anticoagulation in unselected ICU patients with COVID-19.

Fibrin Clot Properties in Atherosclerotic Vascular Disease: From Pathophysiology to Clinical Outcomes

Michal Zabczyk et al.

Summary: Fibrin accumulation and characteristics play a role in the development of atherosclerosis and arterial thrombosis, with cardiovascular risk factors affecting fibrin clot properties. Effective therapies such as aspirin, statins, and anticoagulant agents can improve unfavorable alterations in fibrin clot characteristics.
