Santonian-Campanian continentalization in the Austral-Magallanes basin: regional correlation, provenance and geodynamic setting

Matias C. Ghiglione et al.

Summary: The study explores the continentalization of the Austral-Magallanes foreland basin during the Santonian-Maastrichtian period, shedding light on the sedimentation age, source regions, and tectonic setting. The analysis of detrital zircon U-Pb geochronological data reveals the evolution of deltaic, fluvial, and wetland sequences, as well as the tectonic processes driving basin shallowing and exhumation.

Ornithischian remains from the Chorrillo Formation (Upper Cretaceous), southern Patagonia, Argentina, and their implications on ornithischian paleobiogeography in the Southern Hemisphere

Sebastian Rozadilla et al.

Summary: The fossil record of ornithischians in South America is sparse, but recent discoveries show more diversity than previously thought. Fossil remains of ankylosaurs and ornithopods, including basal euiguanodontians and hadrosaurs, were found in the Chorrillo Formation in southern Argentina. The presence of ankylosaurs and hadrosaurids in South America may be a result of migration or vicariance from other continents.

New cladotherian mammal from southern Chile and the evolution of mesungulatid meridiolestidans at the dusk of the Mesozoic era

Agustin G. Martinelli et al.

Summary: This study describes a new meridiolestidan mammal, Orretherium, from the Late Cretaceous of southern Chile, based on a partial jaw and an isolated upper premolar. Phylogenetic analysis suggests Orretherium is the earliest divergence within Mesungulatidae, potentially hinting at the presence of multiple species within the family. The study sheds light on the heterochronic tooth eruption pattern in meridiolestidans compared to basal dryolestoids, providing important insights into mammalian evolution during the Mesozoic Era.

Integrating outcrop and subsurface data to improve the predictability of geobodies distribution using a 3D training image: A case study of a Triassic Channel - Crevasse-splay complex

Luis Miguel Yeste et al.

Summary: Integrating analogue outcrop data, subsurface data, and new 3D outcrop modeling techniques can improve the determination of geostatistical parameters for complex fluvial sandstone reservoirs. The use of Geocellular Outcrop Models (GOM) allows for quantifying uncertainty associated with results and contrasting them with geostatistical simulations. By combining field data, digital data, and subsurface data, a geostatistical modeling of an outcrop analogue in the Triassic Red Beds of Iberian Meseta was carried out.

Implications of palaeosols in low net-to-gross fluvial architecture reconstruction: Reservoir analogues from Patagonia and Spain

Augusto Nicolas Varela et al.

Summary: This study modeled the changes in geometry, density, and distribution of fluvial reservoir sand-bodies through laboratory and outcrop analogues, while emphasizing the importance of fine-grained floodplain deposits for reconstruction of fluvial architecture. By analyzing palaeopedological data, the classification and variability of palaeosols were described, showing their relationship with sedimentary processes.
