Ultrahigh GaN:SiO2 etch selectivity by in situ surface modification of SiO2 in a Cl2-Ar plasma

Clint D. Frye et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that SiO2 can serve as an effective mask material for deep etching of GaN devices with high selectivity, achieving GaN:SiO2 selectivities greater than those reported for metal hard masks. Introducing Al and AlCl into the plasma enables ultrahigh SiO2 selectivities, providing a low-contamination pathway for etching deep GaN microdevices.

Morphological and chemical characteristics of oxide scales formed on δ-Phase plutonium metal alloys I: 3.5 at% ga

Scott B. Donald et al.

Summary: By using FIB-SEM and 3D microscopy to characterize the morphological features of oxide scales, the study found variations in the oxide surface under different environmental conditions. The oxide scale retained its original structure and chemical characteristics after exposure to dry air environments, but became thinner and without internal microcracking after exposure to moist air environments.

Parabolic oxidation kinetics of a plutonium alloy at room temperature

Scott B. Donald et al.

Summary: Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) was used to characterize the oxide scale on a Ga-plutonium metal alloy, revealing its thickness and chemistry. The parabolic kinetics of the Pu-Ga alloy were determined as a function of relative humidity and oxygen partial pressure, showing that the reaction rate was independent of oxygen pressure and had a power-law relationship with humidity.
