Deterioration of marine concrete exposed to wetting-drying action

Matthew Zhi Yeon Ting et al.

Summary: This study reviews the impact of wetting-drying action on concrete deterioration in marine environment and identifies the influential factors. It discusses the physical, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of concrete exposed to wetting-drying action. Limited research works are identified on the synergy between physical and chemical deteriorations.

Combined impact of carbonation and crack width on the Chloride Penetration and Corrosion Resistance of Concrete Structures

Abbas S. AL-Ameeri et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of concrete carbonation on chloride penetration resistance and corrosion rate in RC structures with service-related cracks. Results demonstrate that carbonation significantly increases chloride penetration depth, chloride concentration profile, and corrosion potential when exposed to chloride environment, compared to uncarbonated concrete samples.

Freeze-thaw resistance of recycled aggregate concrete damaged by simulated acid rain

Caifeng Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that acid rain has some impact on the freeze-thaw resistance of recycled aggregate concrete, weakening its ability to resist freezing and thawing, especially with prolonged acid rain spraying time or increased acidity of acid rain. Measures need to be taken to improve the acid resistance of recycled aggregate concrete to enhance its durability.

Improving concrete pavement performance in relation to combined effects of freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salt

Aref Ebrahimi Besheli et al.

Summary: This study focused on improving the mechanical properties and resistance to surface scaling against de-icing salt of concrete paving by using different cementitious materials. The results showed that replacing 15% of cement with metakaolin or zeolite enhanced compressive strengths and resistance to chloride penetration. Additionally, mixtures containing pozzolan performed better performance against de-icing salt.

Experimental study on the mechanical properties of grouted rock bolts subjected to sulfate attack and freeze-thaw cycling

Weili Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of freeze-thaw cycling and sulfate attack on the pull-out capacity of rock bolts. Both freeze-thaw cycling and sulfate attack were found to reduce the bearing capacity and increase deformation, causing stress relaxation in the bolts. Freeze-thaw damage played a dominant role under the combined action of sulfate attack and freeze-thaw cycling, with sulfate attack causing greater damage after a period of exposure.
