Experimental and numerical study of the effects of solution concentration and temperature on concrete under external sulfate attack

Dujian Zou et al.

Summary: The study experimentally validated a coupled chemo-transport model for external sulfate attack on concrete, showing that higher concentrations of sulfate solution and temperatures increase the concentration of sulfate ions in concrete. The research concluded that these parameters primarily affect external sulfate attack through the chemical reaction process.

External ammonium sulfate attack in concrete: Analysis of the current methodology

Monalisa C. Martins et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effect of partial replacement of Portland cement by silica fume and rice husk ash on concrete subjected to ammonium sulfate attacks. The results show that concrete without supplementary cementitious materials experienced a significant reduction in compressive strength when exposed to external ammonium sulfate attacks. Although the supplementary materials helped mitigate the degradation effects, they also led to high precipitation of gypsum on the surface.

Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement as a Substitution to Natural Coarse Aggregate for the Production of Sustainable Pervious Concrete Pavement Mixes

Surya Kant Sahdeo et al.

Summary: The study found that utilizing coarse reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) aggregates can significantly increase the porosity and permeability of pervious concrete pavement (PCP) mixes, but it may also negatively impact the mechanical properties. It is recommended to use up to 50% of RC as a replacement to natural coarse aggregates (NCAs) in order to maintain a balance in various properties.
