Rheological properties and aging performance of sulfur extended asphalt modified with recycled polyethylene waste

Yasser M. Alghrafy et al.

Summary: This study found that adding recycled plastic waste (RPW) can improve the rutting and fatigue performance of virgin asphalt and sulfur extended asphalt (SEA). RPW addition can slow down the binder oxidation reactions. RPW has a significant impact on the performance of asphalt.

Effect of Sulfur on Bio-Modified Rubberized Bitumen

Tao Zhou et al.

Summary: This study found that the introduction of sulfur significantly reduced the elasticity of rubberized bitumen, but the elasticity was regained to some extent over time. Rubberized bitumen modified with waste vegetable oil was most impacted by the introduction of sulfur and had the fastest curing rate.

Improving the Moisture Sensitivity of Asphalt Mixtures by Simultaneous Modification of Asphalt Binder and Aggregates with Carbon Nanofiber and Carbon Nanotube

Mohammad Nikookar et al.

Summary: The study found that the use of carbon nanofiber and carbon nanotube in modifying asphalt binder and aggregates increased the indirect tensile strength and tensile strength ratio values of mixtures. Additionally, utilizing these materials enhanced the adhesion free energy of the aggregate-asphalt binder system. The modifications had a positive impact on decreasing the moisture sensitivity of asphalt mixtures.

Evaluation of various factors affecting mix design of sulfur-extended asphalt mixes

Muhammad Aniq Gul et al.

Summary: Elemental sulfur has been demonstrated as a viable alternative to conventional asphalt binder in pavement construction applications. Various mix design factors can impact the performance of sulfur extended asphalt (SEA), including sulfur content, binder type, and sulfur addition method. Results show that sulfur can replace up to 30% of asphalt binder to produce SEA mixes.
