Investigation of microstructural damage in air-entrained recycled concrete under a freeze-thaw environment

Xianghui Deng et al.

Summary: Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) is a multiphase porous material, and the pore structure and quality are influenced by the addition of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) and air-entraining admixture (AEA). The distribution of pores and frost resistance of concrete are affected by the replacement rate of RCA, with proportions of mesopores and macropores increasing significantly at higher replacement rates. The flexural strength of recycled concrete depends on the total proportion of mesopores and macropores, with an optimal range for high strength identified between 55% and 74%.

Fracture behavior of flax fibers reinforced earth concrete

Nathalie Kouta et al.

Summary: This paper studied the effect of flax fibers on the fracture behavior of earth concrete, finding that adding flax fibers can enhance the ductility and crack resistance of earth concrete. The acoustic emission activity and fracture energy increased with the percentage and length of fibers, while the AE signal parameters varied with loading rate.

A novel method for semi-quantitative analysis of hydration degree of cement by 1H low-field NMR

Heng Liu et al.

Summary: A novel method and model have been developed to analyze the hydration degree of cement paste using the analytical H-1 low-field NMR technique. The hydration degree can be quantitatively calculated based on T-2 distributions, with significant correlations found between T-2 values and hydration degree under different curing conditions.

Partially-exposed cast-in-situ concrete degradation induced by internal-external sulfate and magnesium multiple coupled attack

Gaowen Zhao et al.

Summary: Experimental tests were conducted to simulate the corrosion process of partially exposed concrete, showing that internal sulfate attack accelerates corrosion and causes expansion and damage. Magnesium in the environments can slow down the degradation process induced by sulfate attack.
