Whisker Growth in Sn Coatings: A Review of Current Status and Future Prospects

Piyush Jagtap et al.

Summary: The article reviews the extensive studies on whisker growth out of Sn-plated surfaces, discussing the mechanisms of growth, the roles of stress and its regeneration, oxide layer, diffusion conduits, and crystal anisotropy in creating conditions conducive for whiskering. Recent proposals for effectively mitigating whisker growth in Sn coatings are also discussed, along with an outlook on important unresolved issues related to whisker growth.

Prediction of the diffusion characteristics of the V-Cr system by molecular dynamics based on N-body interatomic potentials

V. N. Maksimenko et al.

Summary: Molecular dynamics (MD) is a promising method for predicting the diffusion characteristics of materials. In this work, interatomic potentials were constructed for calculating the diffusion characteristics in V-Cr alloys. Results showed that the diffusion coefficient of V exceeds the diffusion coefficient of Cr in the solid solutions of Cr in V. The study confirmed the reliability of both the experimental data and the MD simulation through agreement between the results.

Shear deformation mechanical performance of Ni-Co alloy nanoplate by molecular dynamics simulation

Qing Gao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the deformation mechanism and microstructure evolution of Ni-Co alloy nanoplate under shear loading using molecular dynamics simulation, revealing the major role of Shockley and Perfect dislocations and their interactions in determining the mechanical properties of the material. The coherence of dislocations motion decreases with increasing temperature, leading to a decrease in area due to scattering of atoms in stacking faults.
