Low-frequency plasmonic state and negative permittivity in copper/titanium dioxide percolating composites

Zaixin Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the ac conductivity, real permittivity, and reactance of copper/titanium dioxide percolating composites, revealing that the enhancement of interfacial polarization contributes to the enhanced permittivity before percolation, while plasma-like negative permittivity is achieved in excessively percolating state. Reactance analyses indicate that the negative permittivity is attributed to inductive characteristics, with greater inductance contributing more to the negative permittivity.

Effect of direct-current biasing on the adjustable radio-frequency negative permittivity characteristics of Bi2SiO5/multiwall carbon nanotube metacomposites

Toton Haldar et al.

Summary: Metacomposites of Bi2SiO5 (BSO) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) with adjustable negative permittivity were prepared using a hydrothermal method. The interconnected MWCNT formed a three-dimensional conductive network in the metacomposites, leading to the tunable negative permittivity attributed to the low-frequency plasmon resonance of free Drude carriers. The study also investigated the impact of direct current biasing voltage on the negative permittivity characteristics in the radio frequency region, providing a novel strategy for adjusting the negative permittivity value for potential applications in sensors.

Significantly enhanced high permittivity and negative permittivity in Ag/ Al2O3/3D-BaTiO3/epoxy metacomposites with unique hierarchical heterogeneous microstructures

Mingli Han et al.

Summary: High dielectric permittivity materials are crucial for electronic devices, and this study introduces a novel epoxy composite design with customized high permittivity by controlling the spatial distribution of Ag particles through adjusting the Ag+/Al3+ mole ratios. The composites show enhanced dielectric properties and a plasma-like negative phenomenon as the Ag+/Al3+ mole ratio increases, providing a route for designing polymer composites with tailorable properties.

Dielectric dispersion of copper/rutile cermets: Dielectric resonance, relaxation, and plasma oscillation

Guohua Fan et al.

Summary: The transition of permittivity from positive to negative is determined by percolation in copper/rutile cermets. Negative permittivity is induced by the plasmonic state of electrons within percolating pathways, and these composites show potential applications in electromagnetic shielding and coil-less electrical inductors.

Epsilon-Negative Carbon Aerogels with State Transition from Dielectric to Degenerate Semiconductor

Peitao Xie et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the ability to achieve negative permittivity in carbon aerogels, with the value continuously adjustable by changing the composition while keeping the microstructure unchanged. Additionally, a physical state transition is observed with increasing carbonization temperature, transitioning from a low-loss dielectric state to a high-loss dielectric state, and finally to a degenerate semiconductor state.

Spark plasma sintered GR-CNT/CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramic nanocomposites with tunable epsilon-negative and epsilon-near-zero property

Yunpeng Qu et al.

Summary: In this study, graphene-carbon nanotube/copper calcium titanate ceramic nanocomposites were prepared using spark plasma sintering technology, showing a correlation between the content of graphene-carbon nanotubes and epsilon-negative property. By constructing three-dimensional graphene-carbon nanotube networks in the ceramics, epsilon-negative and epsilon-near-zero properties were achieved. Additionally, dielectric loss behavior and impedance response were discussed, and the inductive character of epsilon-negative materials was explained through equivalent circuit analysis.

Radio-frequency epsilon-negative property and diamagnetic response of percolative Ag/CCTO metacomposites

Yunpeng Qu et al.

Summary: Percolative nanocomposites of Ag/CaCu3Ti4O12 were synthesized in-situ, showing transitions in dielectric and magnetic properties at radiofrequency band. The observation of negative permittivity and negative magnetic responses in percolated composites is attributed to low-frequency plasmonic state and induced eddy currents in conductive Ag networks. The competitive effect between the polarization response of the positive CCTO matrix and the plasma oscillation of the negative Ag networks leads to tunable negative permittivity.

Summary: In this study, single layer structured graphene/polyvinylidene fluoride (GR/PVDF) composites were synthesized by hot pressing process, showing a transition in permittivity from positive to negative and achieving high-k and low tan delta performances. Multilayer structured GR/PVDF composites with a negative-k layer were able to achieve high-k and low loss, providing a novel strategy for preparing dielectric materials.
