This paper presents static and free vibration analysis of simply supported FGM sandwich shells using a new higher order shear and normal deformation theory, considering the effects of transverse normal stresses. Solutions of simply supported cylindrical and spherical shells are obtained using Navier's solution technique. The present results are compared with previous results to validate the theory.
Static and free vibration analysis of simply supported FGM sandwich shells is presented in this paper using a new higher order shear and normal deformation theory. The higher order theory developed herein considers the effects of transverse normal stresses. The theory uses higher order variations of in-plane as well as transverse displacements. Hamilton's principle is used to formulate the equations of motion. Solutions of simply supported cylindrical and spherical shells are obtained using Navier's solution technique. Different types of sandwich shells with FGM face sheets and isotropic core are considered for the numerical problems. The present results are compared with previously published results wherever possible to prove the validity of the present theory.
