Enhanced removal of oxytetracycline by UV-driven advanced oxidation with peracetic acid: Insight into the degradation intermediates and N-nitrosodimethylamine formation potential

Tingting Yan et al.

Summary: In this study, UV-driven advanced oxidation with peracetic acid (PAA) was found to have a synergistic effect on the removal and mineralization of oxytetracycline (OTC). Through various experiments, it was revealed that hydroxyl radicals were the main oxidizer for OTC removal, while UV, PAA, and carbon-centered radicals also played a role in the process. The proposed UV/PAA process not only effectively removed refractory antibiotics like OTC, but also reduced the formation potential of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) by 65.8%.

Adsorption of emerging contaminants from water and wastewater by modified biochar: A review

Ning Cheng et al.

Summary: Emerging contaminants (ECs), relatively low-concentration but high-toxicity pollutants in the environment, have attracted widespread attention in recent years. Biochar, as a low-cost and high-efficiency adsorbent, has been used to treat ECs in water. There are numerous reports on the removal of ECs from water by modified biochar.

Fabrication of PVDF-based piezocatalytic active membrane with enhanced oxytetracycline degradation efficiency through embedding few-layer E-MoS2 nanosheets

Wei Ma et al.

Summary: A novel piezocatalytic active membrane was synthesized using exfoliated multi-flaw MoS2 nano-sheets and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) via electrospinning technique. The membrane exhibited superior degradation efficiency of antibiotic oxytetracycline (OTC) and stable piezocatalytic activity, attributed to the synergistic effect of embedded E-MoS2 nanosheets and a high proportion of PVDF beta-phase. This study is significant for exploring composite membrane piezocatalysts for large-scale applications in wastewater treatment.
