Compatibilization of Immiscible Polymer Blends Using Block Copolymer: Influence of the Dry Brush Model Modifications on Model Results

Josef Juza et al.

Summary: The compatibilization of polymer blends can be estimated using theoretical models, such as Leibler's mean field theory, in conjunction with modifications proposed by Noolandi. The behavior of polymer blends with shorter copolymer chains can be described using either the dry brush approximation for high copolymer concentration or an approximation for low copolymer concentration in the interfacial layer. However, none of the modifications resulted in closer approximation to the behavior at low copolymer concentration.

Analysis of the effect of the interaction parameters of copolymer blocks on their efficiency in reducing the interfacial tension between the components of immiscible polymer blends

Josef Juza et al.

Summary: The interaction parameters between copolymer blocks and homopolymers play a crucial role in the efficiency of compatibilizers. Factors affecting compatibilization efficiency include copolymer block length ratio and interaction between individual segments. Copolymers with slightly longer chain of units compatible with the dispersed phase show maximum compatibilization efficiency.
