Determination of Biopsy Yield That Optimally Detects Eosinophilic Gastritis and/or Duodenitis in a Randomized Trial of Lirentelimab

Evan S. Dellon et al.

Summary: In this study, endoscopic and histopathological analysis of patients with moderate-to-severe GI symptoms participating in a clinical trial of lirentelimab for EG/EoD revealed patchy eosinophilia in gastric and duodenal biopsies. Counting eosinophils in at least 8 gastric and 4 duodenal biopsies was necessary to identify patients with EG/EoD for appropriate treatment.

Mast Cell and Eosinophil Counts in Gastric and Duodenal Biopsy Specimens From Patients With and Without Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis

Craig C. Reed et al.

Summary: The study found that there were increased numbers of mast cells and eosinophils in gastric and duodenal tissues from patients with EGIDs, indicating their involvement in the pathogenesis of the disorders. However, cell counts were not associated with symptoms or endoscopic features of EGIDs. Specific thresholds for each cell type were identified that could accurately identify patients with EGIDs.

Diagnostic Delay in Patients with Eosinophilic Gastritis and/or Duodenitis: A Population-Based Study

Mirna Chehade et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with EG/EoD typically experienced 3.6 years from initial symptom presentation to diagnosis, with factors contributing to diagnostic delay including delayed referral, delayed procedures, and missed diagnosis. The hope is that increased awareness and standardized diagnostic guidelines will improve the diagnostic journey for these patients.

Comparison of Nonesophageal Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders with Eosinophilic Esophagitis: A Nationwide Survey

Mayu Yamamoto et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical features and natural histories of non-EoE EGIDs and EoE, revealing a higher prevalence of EoE in males and more serious symptoms and complications in children compared to adults. The most common natural history for both diseases was the continuous type.
