Chiral voltammetric sensor for tryptophan enantiomers by using a self-assembled multiwalled carbon nanotubes/polyaniline/sodium alginate composite

Xiaohui Niu et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel electrochemical sensing interface was fabricated by combining multiwalled carbon nanotubes, polyaniline, and sodium alginate, allowing for precise, efficient, and rapid differentiation of tryptophan enantiomers. The optimized sensing platform demonstrated excellent stereoselectivity and anti-interference ability, showing a potential to effectively detect Trp enantiomers in real samples. This work paves a new way for preparing substrate materials with high electrical conductivity and expanding their applications in chiral recognition.

Direct dynamic read-out of molecular chirality with autonomous enzyme-driven swimmers

Serena Arnaboldi et al.

Summary: One key method for designing bioinspired machines is transferring concepts from nature to man-made structures by integrating biomolecules into artificial mechanical systems, allowing the conversion of molecular information into macroscopic action. Hybrid bioelectrochemical swimmers can convert chiral information into enantiospecific macroscopic trajectories, with potential biomedical applications and food quality testing.

Mapping the Distribution of Potential Gradient in Bipolar Electrochemical Systems through Luminol Electrochemiluminescence Imaging

Elena Villani et al.

Summary: Bipolar electrochemistry is a powerful technique for synthesizing functional materials, but the distribution of potential gradient is affected by cell geometry and monitoring is challenging. The use of electro-chemiluminescence as an imaging technique offers a valuable and reliable method for mapping potential distribution in bipolar electrochemical systems.

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence of luminol on wireless conducting polymer films

Elena Villani et al.

Summary: In this study, electrochemiluminescence (ECL) was successfully generated from entirely pure conducting polymer films in alkaline aqueous solution, using PEDOT and PPy films prepared by constant current electrolysis as bipolar electrodes. ECL intensity profiles showed gradient emission on both materials, with different light-emitting regions. Imaging analysis allowed evaluation of ECL behavior of both CPs as a function of applied voltage and conductivity, showing potential applications in ECL and bipolar electrochemistry fields.

Claudia Malacrida et al.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and characterization of three new inherently chiral N,N'-dipropyl-3,3'-diheteroaryl-2,2'-biindole monomers, with Ind(2)T(6) showing the best stability and electrochromic switching performance in oligomeric films. Enantioselective tests with a chiral ferrocene amine demonstrate the potential of these monomers as chiral selectors for analytical and sensing purposes.

Bipolar Electrochemical Measurement of Enantiomeric Excess with Inherently Chiral Polymer Actuators

Serena Arnaboldi et al.

Summary: The paper presents a simple system for direct read-out of enantiomeric excess using a conducting oligomer with chiral features generated on a polypyrrole film. By combining two individual actuators with opposite chiral features in a single setup, direct visualization of enantiomeric excess is achieved, allowing for potential applications in chiral in situ analysis.
