Intensification of gas-liquid two-phase flow and mass transfer in microchannels by sudden expansions

Shizhe Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that sudden expansion structures can significantly enhance gas-liquid mass transfer; the enhancement factor increases with the number of sudden expansion units and gas-liquid flow rate ratio, while pressure drop shows only slight elevation; the effective mass transfer enhancement efficiency was assessed based on energy consumption and enhancement factor.

Direct oxidation of benzene to phenol in a microreactor: Process parameters and reaction kinetics study

Hailing Zhao et al.

Summary: The direct synthesis of phenol from benzene and hydrogen peroxide was investigated in a microreactor, with focus on the effects of process parameters on reaction performance. A novel method was proposed to calculate the actual residence time for the reaction process, especially at high temperatures. The activation energies for phenol synthesis, hydrogen peroxide decomposition, and p-benzoquinone formation were also determined in the study.

Relay-Heck Cross-Coupling Between Alkenyl Halides and Unsaturated Alcohols in the Synthesis of Open-Chain Analogues of Musk Odorant Vulcanolide

Anthony Lenormand et al.

Summary: Unactivated alkenyl iodides and bromides underwent a palladium-catalyzed relay-Heck cross-coupling with alkenols to afford unsaturated aldehydes and ketones in moderate to good yields, while alkenyl triflates were not suitable partners for this reaction. This method allowed the preparation of open-chain analogues of the musk odorant Vulcanolide, some of which retained key olfactory properties of the parent molecule.

Asymmetric behaviors of interface-stabilized slug pairs in a T-junction microchannel reactor

Xiaoda Wang et al.

Summary: This study focused on the coalescence of long droplets in T-junction microchannel reactors, exploring the effects of stabilizer and asymmetry, as well as investigating non-coalescence behaviors such as slipping and breakup. The research revealed the influence of different operating conditions on time parameters and established models for characterizing these behaviors.

Enhancement of gas-liquid mass transfer by nanofluids in a microchannel under Taylor flow regime

Mengmeng Huang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the gas-liquid two-phase flow and mass transfer enhancement by nanoparticles in CO2 absorption process using SiO2 nanofluids under Taylor flow regime. The presence of nanoparticles effectively enhances gas-liquid mass transfer, with K(L)a and pressure drop increasing with gas-liquid flow rate ratio, and CO2 absorption efficiency decreasing. However, K(L)a, CO2 absorption efficiency, and pressure drop increase with the increase of particle concentration in slurry.

Continuous-flow diazotization of red base KD hydrochloride suspensions in a microreaction system

Fa-Jun Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a continuous-flow microreaction system was developed for the diazotization reaction of red base KD hydrochloride in suspension. Optimal reaction conditions were obtained by investigating the effects of various factors on the reaction. It was observed that the agglomeration of suspensions significantly affects the reaction, but this can be prevented by optimizing the suspension preparation process.

Kinetics Modelling of Uncatalyzed Esterification of Acetic Anhydride with Isoamyl Alcohol in a Microreactor System

C. S. Lee et al.

Summary: The uncatalyzed esterification of acetic anhydride and isoamyl alcohol was successfully conducted in a miniaturized intensified reactor (MIR), showing high conversion rates and efficient mixing due to the high surface-to-volume ratio. Three different kinetic models were tested, with the reversible reaction model providing the best fit to the experimental data. The hydrolysis of isoamyl acetate was found to be more favorable than that of acetic anhydride, with a significantly higher rate constant for the reverse reaction.
