Hexafluoropropylene oxide-dimer acid (HFPO-DA or GenX) alters maternal and fetal glucose and lipid metabolism and produces neonatal mortality, low birthweight, and hepatomegaly in the Sprague-Dawley rat

Justin M. Conley et al.

Summary: HFPO-DA is a developmental toxicant in rats, causing biological changes in maternal and fetal livers, decreased pup birth weight and increased neonatal mortality, as well as metabolic abnormalities at birth. The potency of HFPO-DA in rats is comparable to PFOS based on serum concentration, and the spectrum of adverse effects is consistent with other PFAS such as PFOS and PFOA.

Legacy and emerging per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in multi-media around a landfill in China: Implications for the usage of PFASs alternatives

Chang Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated various PFAS in groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples near a valley-type landfill operating for over 20 years, revealing significant differences in PFAS concentrations in different locations and media, as well as varying partitioning behaviors of PFCAs in the water-sediment system. The increasing trend of short-chain analogues and emerging alternatives in surface water, along with negligible health risks of PFOS and PFOA via the drinking groundwater exposure pathway, were observed. Further comprehensive studies on the human health risks of PFAS from landfills are deemed essential.

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substance (PFAS) Transport from Groundwater to Streams near a PFAS Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina, USA

Marie-Amelie Petre et al.

Summary: This study quantifies the transport of PFAS from groundwater to tributaries of the Cape Fear River near a PFAS manufacturing facility in North Carolina, USA. The results indicate that PFAS from groundwater enter the Cape Fear River through tributaries, potentially causing long-term surface water contamination and impacting downstream drinking water supplies.
