Mono- and bimetallic (Pt/Cu) titanium(IV) oxide core-shell photocatalysts with UV/Vis light activity and magnetic separability

Zuzanna Bielan et al.

Summary: Titanium(IV) oxide is a widely studied photocatalyst, but challenges in separating nano-sized particles for commercial applications exist. This study focuses on developing novel core-interlayer-shell TiO2 magnetic photocatalysts modified with metal nanoparticles that exhibit improved photoactivity under UV/Vis irradiation, particularly in oxidation and reduction reactions. The correlation between physicochemical properties and photocatalytic activities of these modified photocatalysts was also investigated, showing efficient degradation of phenol under UV/Vis irradiation.

High temperature thermo-photocatalysis driven carbon removal in direct biogas fueled solid oxide fuel cells

Doudou Gu et al.

Summary: A novel high temperature infrared light driven photocatalytic oxidation method is reported for carbon removal in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Modification of Ni-YSZ anode with TiO2 improves electrochemical performance, reduces coking, and enhances long-term stability in SOFCs. The in situ generated hydroxyl radical from the reduced TiOx powder under high temperature infrared light excitation contributes to the high activity and carbon deposition resistance of the modified anode.

Preferential and efficient degradation of phenolic pollutants with cooperative hydrogen-bond interactions in photocatalytic process

Jinxing Zhang et al.

Summary: Phenolic pollutants can be efficiently oxidized in photocatalytic process by using boron-doped TiO2, which plays a key role in enhancing photocatalytic activity through the formation of abundant Ti3+ species. The degradation rate constant of boron-doped TiO2 for catechol was significantly higher compared to biodegradation and ozonation methods. This preferential removal mechanism of phenolic pollutants could lead to the development of new oxidation technologies for selectively removing highly toxic pollutants.

Photocatalytic degradation of ibuprofen on S-doped BiOBr

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: Doping S into the lattice of BiOBr to synthesize S-BiOBr significantly enhances the degradation efficiency and kinetic constant for the visible-light-driven degradation of ibuprofen. This is attributed to the band structure tuning by S-doping, leading to higher visible light utilization efficiency. OH radicals play a synergistic role with holes in the degradation process on S-BiOBr, which is more efficient than the reported single hole- or superoxide-dominant reactions.
