Zeqiong Xu et al.

Summary: Monitoring of disinfection by-products (DBPs) in water supply system is crucial for ensuring the safety of drinking water. This study successfully predicted trihalomethane (THMs) occurrence in tap water using simple water quality parameters, and continuously improved prediction accuracy by adjusting the parameters of radial basis function artificial neural network (RBF ANN) models. Accurate predictions of THMs by RBF ANNs with simple parameters provide an economic and convenient way for THMs monitoring in real water supply system.

Facile preparation of polyvinylidene fluoride substrate supported thin film composite polyamide nanofiltration: Effect of substrate pore size

Junhui Wu et al.

Summary: PVDF is rarely used as a substrate membrane for thin film composite polyamide nanofiltration membrane due to its hydrophobic surface pushing water away during interfacial polymerization. In this study, it was found that the pore size of the PVDF substrate greatly influences the morphologies and surface properties of the TFC PA NF membrane. The TFC membrane prepared with a PVDF substrate of 100 nm exhibited a 27.0 L m-2 h-1 bar-1 pure water permeance, and a 96.2% Na2SO4 rejection, demonstrating a facile and effective method for preparation of PVDF substrate supported PA NF membrane.
