A new eudesmane sesquiterpene compound was isolated from Inula japonica and its chemical structure was determined by advanced spectroscopy techniques. The compound exhibited phytotoxic effect on the growth of lettuce.
A new eudesmane sesquiterpene, 12-acetoxy-1 beta,2 alpha-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15),11(13)-diene (1), was isolated from Inula japonica. The chemical structure of compound 1 was elucidated by advanced spectroscopy techniques, such as H-1, C-13 NMR, HMBC, HSQC, COSY, and NOESY. The compound 1 presented phytotoxic effect on the growth of lettuce at 250 ppm.
