Mechanistic Insights into the Synthesis of Platinum-Rare Earth Metal Nanoalloys by a Solid-State Chemical Route

Yang Hu et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive understanding of the synthesis mechanism of platinum-rare earth metal (Pt-RE) nanoalloys, achieved through systematic investigations of the chemical processes at different stages and the evolution of intermediate products. This paves the way for optimizing synthesis procedures and manipulating the method to synthesize Pt-RE alloy materials with desired structures and properties.

Eliminating the need for craftsmanship: Facile and precise determination of oxygen reduction reaction activity by spraying catalyst ink on rotating disk electrode

Masanori Inaba et al.

Summary: A simple method using a commercial ultrasonic atomizer was proposed to fabricate highly uniform catalyst thin films on rotating disk electrodes, enabling accurate determination of ORR activity of high surface area catalysts without the need for specific film fabrication conditions for each catalyst sample. This method has been successfully applied to commercial Pt/C catalysts as well as a homemade Pt/NbB2 catalyst, showing comparable ORR activities to previous literature values.
