Uncovering a Functional Motif of Nonlinear Optical Materials by In Situ Electron Density and Wavefunction Studies Under Laser Irradiation

Xiao-Ming Jiang et al.

Summary: This study explores the NLO functional motif of LiB3O5 under different laser conditions, identifying the NLO functional motif as [B3O5](-). The research extracts the NLO functional motif of a NLO material experimentally for the first time and highlights the crucial role of in situ electron density analysis in studying NLO mechanisms.

Phase Matching Achieved by Bandgap Widening in Infrared Nonlinear Optical Materials [ABa(3)Cl(2)] [Ga5S10] (A= K, Rb, and Cs)

Bin-Wen Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a new strategy was developed to achieve phase matching in IR NLO crystals by modulating the crystal bandgap. Three new wide bandgap IR NLO salt-inclusion sulfides were successfully synthesized, exhibiting phase matching behaviors with large second-harmonic-generation efficiency and highest laser damage thresholds among known chalcogenides, comparable to commercial silver gallium sulfide crystal.
