Biological activity and profiling of Salvia sclarea essential oil obtained by steam and hydrodistillation extraction methods via chemometrics tools

Milica G. Acimovic et al.

Summary: This study investigated the essential oil composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, and total polyphenol content of clary sage grown in Serbia. The essential oils showed higher sensitivity in Gram-negative bacteria compared to Gram-positive bacteria. The antioxidant capacity of the essential oils was found to be low, with an accuracy of the prediction model for retention indices reaching r(2) = .912.

Is the Antimicrobial Activity of Hydrolates Lower than that of Essential Oils?

Maura Di Vito et al.

Summary: The study compared the antimicrobial activity of essential oils and hydrolates extracted from six aromatic plants in Italy against fungal and bacterial strains potentially pathogenic for human skin. The findings indicate that while the minimum inhibitory concentration values of essential oils are lower than those of hydrolates, the volatiles in hydrolates are more effective at inhibiting microbial growth at lower concentrations.

Effects of Biostimulants on the Chemical Composition of Essential Oil and Hydrosol of Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia Emeric ex Loisel.) Cultivated in Tuscan-Emilian Apennines

Eleonora Truzzi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of two different biostimulants on lavender EO and hydrosol production and composition, finding that biostimulants can significantly increase yield without altering the chemical composition of EOs. Composition differences in EOs and hydrosols of Lavandula x intermedia cultivar Grosso were observed among different locations, possibly due to sunlight exposure and crop maintenance.
