Integrating approach to discover novel bergenin derivatives and phenolics with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities from bio-active fraction of Syzygium brachythyrsum

Jiaqi Qiu et al.

Summary: This study identified new bioactive constituents with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in Syzygium brachythyrsum, including a large number of bergenin derivatives and phenolic compounds, some of which were discovered for the first time in the genus. This indicates the potential of Syzygium brachythyrsum as a promising functional and medicinal resource.

Anti-inflammatory potential of Quercetin in COVID-19 treatment

Ali Saeedi-Boroujeni et al.

Summary: SARS-CoV-2, causing severe inflammatory pneumonia, is considered to have excessive inflammation as a risk factor, with cytokine storm playing a critical role in patient deaths. Quercetin may suppress inflammation by inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome, potentially serving as a treatment for severe inflammation and COVID-19 patients.

Investigation of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of luteolin, kaempferol, apigenin and quercetin

Chunlian Tian et al.

Summary: The study focused on the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of four common flavonol glycoside compounds - luteolin, kaempferol, apigenin, and quercetin. Results showed that all compounds were able to reduce NO concentration and phagocytosis, with quercetin showing the most potential as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent. Furthermore, the research indicated a correlation between antioxidant activity and the number of phenolic hydroxyl groups, and compounds with enol groups displayed superior activities, suggesting potential for future in vivo experiments.
