The impact of temperature on the water isotope (2H/1H, 17O/16O, 18O/16O) fractionation upon transport through a low-density polyethylene membrane

Michael Ernst Boettcher et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the isotope effects associated with water loss from closed LDPE bottles at temperatures ranging from 4 to 60 degrees C. While no substantial diffusional loss of water was observed at low temperatures, a pronounced loss was found at room temperature and 60 degrees C. The isotope effects were essentially dependent on the extent of water evaporation through the LDPE membrane.

Imprint of chemical weathering and hydrothermalism on the Ge/Si ratio and Si isotope composition of rivers in a volcanic tropical island, Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe (French West Indies)

Francois Gaspard et al.

Summary: A study evaluated the sources of high chemical weathering flux in volcanic island arcs, finding that hydrothermal inputs may compromise accurate estimates of atmospheric CO2 consumption rates. Measurements of Ge/Si ratio and Si isotopes in thermal springs and rivers revealed differences between non-impacted and impacted waters, but could not conclusively diagnose hydrothermal contributions to river basins.

Geochemical investigations of the geothermal systems from the Island of Sicily (southern Italy)

Assunta Donato et al.

Summary: Sicily hosts various natural manifestations, including thermal waters, gas discharges, and mud volcanoes. The chemical and isotopic compositions of water and gas in the region show significant variability, driven by diverse geochemical processes. Analyzing gas chemistry and water isotopes can provide insights into the geothermal structure and fluid circulation models in the area.
