Efficient mixing enhancement by orthogonal injection of shear-thinning fluids in a micro serpentine channel at low Reynolds numbers

Haie Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposed an efficient mixer using orthogonal injection for mixing viscoelastic fluids in microfluidic systems. Experimental investigation of shear-thinning fluids in a serpentine channel with orthogonal injection showed enhanced mixing efficiency over a short effective mixing length. The use of shear-thinning fluids with different polymer concentrations significantly improved mixing performance, with the decay exponents indicating elastic instability and flow instabilities-induced effective mixing.

Numerical study of a three-dimensional electroosmotic micromixer with Koch fractal curve structure

Siyue Xiong et al.

Summary: The results of the simulation show that the irregular alternating vortices generated in the microchannel under the combined action of fractal and electric field can greatly improve the mixing of fluids in the electroosmotic micromixer. Specifically, the mixing efficiency can reach 98% when the direct current voltage is 10 V, the electrode spacing is 0.15 mm, and the electroosmotic micromixer has three groups of alternately placed electrode pairs.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL PASSIVE MICROMIXER WITH VARIABLE-ANGLE GROOVES AND BAFFLES

Siyue Xiong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of variable-angle grooves and baffles on the mixing efficiency of a micromixer. Results showed that VAM30(circle) had a significant effect on mixing efficiency, as it improved fluid flow state and prolonged residence time in the channel, leading to a mixing efficiency of 98.9%. The findings also highlighted the importance of geometric parameters in enhancing chaotic convection and improving mixing efficiency with the increase of Reynolds number.
