Impact of metal ions and organic ligands on uranium removal properties by zeolitic imidazolate framework materials

Yue Liu et al.

Summary: Highly porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks were prepared for the elimination of U(VI) radionuclide, with ZIF-8 showing the best removal capacity due to its specific metal center and organic ligand. Batch experiments and DFT calculation provided insights into the interaction mechanisms of U(VI) onto ZIF-8.

Efficient removal of Hg2+ from aqueous solution by a novel composite of nano humboldtine decorated almandine (NHDA): Ion exchange, reducing-oxidation and adsorption

Qiang Zeng et al.

Summary: A novel composite of nano humboldtine decorated almandine was synthesized for efficient removal of Hg2+ from aqueous solution, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 575.17 mg/g. The removal process was pH-dependent, and lower pH values facilitated the removal of Hg2+. The composite showed great potential for Hg2+ removal and the transformation of mercury related species could be an important pathway in natural and engineered systems.

Oxygen defect-induced NO- intermediates promoting NO deep oxidation over Ce doped SnO2 under visible light

Xinjie Song et al.

Summary: Ce-doped SnO2 photocatalyst with abundant OVs was constructed under argon atmosphere to promote NO deep oxidation under visible light. The incorporation of cerium ions generated OVs, where NO was actively adsorbed and transformed into harmless products by ROS. This study offers a new approach for designing high-efficient photocatalysts for NO removal.

Ultrasound-assisted synthesis of single layer MgAl hydrotalcite for the removal of Cr(VI) in solution and soil

Luping Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, single-layer LDHs were successfully prepared and F-U-MgAl showed the highest efficiency in removing Cr(VI), reaching adsorption equilibrium within 1 minute. The adsorption mechanisms of F-U-MgAl were determined to include anion exchange, surface adsorption, and electrostatic attraction, as revealed by XRD and SEM analysis.

Constructing MoS2/Lignin-derived carbon nanocomposites for highly efficient removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous environment

Haijun Chen et al.

Summary: A two-step approach was reported to synthesize MoS2/Lignin-derived Carbon (MoS2@LDC) nanocomposites for efficient removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions, achieving a removal efficiency of 99.35% in 30 minutes through both adsorption and reduction pathways. Hydrogen plasma treatments further enhanced the reduction activity of MoS2@LDC, improving its performance for heavy metal remediation in aquatic environments.

Selective adsorption and separation of organic dyes using functionalized cellulose nanocrystals

Nishil Mohammed et al.

Summary: The study evaluated cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) as adsorbents for selective adsorption and separation of organic dyes mixtures, finding that CNCs with surface functional groups can selectively adsorb dyes, with PD-CNCs showing high affinity for MB and MF-CNCs binding selectively to MO. The improved selectivity of PD-CNCs towards MB is attributed to synergistic binding interactions, such as electrostatic attraction, pi-pi stacking, and hydrogen bonding.
