Bottom-up approach to quasi-monolayer black phosphorus advancing photocatalytic H2 evolution

Zhaojian Sun et al.

Summary: A mild bottom-up approach was used to prepare quasi-monolayer black phosphorus (BP) from precursor red phosphorus, unlocking new opportunities for photocatalytic H-2 evolution. The intercalation of diamine compounds improved the stability and significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity of quasi-monolayer BP.

A universal strategy boosting photoelectrochemical water oxidation by utilizing MXene nanosheets as hole transfer mediators

Gaoliang Yang et al.

Summary: A novel charge transfer system for PEC water oxidation was developed by inserting MXene nanosheets between alpha-Fe2O3 and OEC, demonstrating efficient suppression of interfacial charge recombination and enhanced photoanode performance. The system showed remarkable photocurrent density and cathodic onset potential shift compared to pristine alpha-Fe2O3, and was proven versatile in enhancing PEC water oxidation for various photoanode materials.

Gas phase photofuel cell consisting of WO3-and TiO2-photoanodes and an air-exposed cathode for simultaneous air purification and electricity generation

Myrthe Van Hal et al.

Summary: Research has shown the potential of photofuel cells for waste water treatment and energy recovery. This study introduces an autonomously operating air purification device for sustainable electricity generation. Experiment results demonstrate that tungsten oxide-based photocatalysts outperform titanium dioxide-based ones in gas-phase PFC operation, achieving high fuel-to-electricity conversion rates.

Phosphorus-doped molybdenum carbide/MXene hybrid architectures for upgraded hydrogen evolution reaction performance over a wide pH range

Yi Tang et al.

Summary: The annealing atmosphere significantly impacts the structure and performance of phosphorus-doped molybdenum carbide nanodots hybridized with Ti3C2 MXene flakes in the hydrogen evolution reaction. Nanohybrids annealed in H2/Ar demonstrate the best HER performances, attributed to optimal P-Mo2C nanodots, highly conductive Ti3C2 matrix, and N-doped carbon. This work highlights the potential of MXenes-based electrocatalysts by manipulating the annealing atmosphere.
