The first chiral HPLC separation of dicarba-nido-undecarborate anions and their chromatographic behavior

Ondrej Horacek et al.

Summary: The chiral separations of stable anionic boron cluster derivatives with asymmetric substitutions remain a challenge in chiral chromatography, but this study successfully achieved the first-ever HPLC enantioseparations of 7,8-dicarba-nido-undecaborates(1-) by blocking cationic sites on the stationary phase. Brominated beta-cyclodextrin showed better chiral selectivity for separation of these species, providing new insights into chiral separation of anionic boron clusters.

Inhibitors of CA IX Enzyme Based on Polyhedral Boron Compounds

Michael Kugler et al.

Summary: This review discusses the recent advancements in designing inhibitors of human carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) using space-filling carborane and cobalt bis(dicarbollide) clusters. The inhibitors showed promising results in preclinical evaluation with low toxicity, favorable pharmacokinetics, and inhibition of tumor growth, making them potential candidates for drug development or combination therapy.

Metallacarborane Derivatives Effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Yersinia enterocolitica

Wieslaw Swietnicki et al.

Summary: Novel compounds based on metallacarborane cage showed antibacterial activity against Yersinia pestis substitute Yersinia enterocolitica and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, indicating a common mechanism for drug resistance in the former. The compounds had predominantly bacteriostatic effect and may serve as a starting point for novel anti-Yersinia drugs.
