Access to Stereodefined Multifunctionalized β,γ-Unsaturated Ketones via Chemo-, Regio- and Diastereoselective Copper-Catalyzed Diborylation of Cross-Conjugated Enynones†

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: The study presented a mild, rapid copper-catalyzed diborylation reaction for the synthesis of stereodefined multifunctionalized beta,gamma-unsaturated ketones. Fine control of chemo-, regio-, Z/E and diastereoselectivity was achieved, expanding the substrate scope and proposing a possible catalytic cycle to explain the selectivity.

Catalytic Approach to Diverse α-Aminoboronic Acid Derivatives by Iridium-Catalyzed Hydrogenation of Trifluoroborate-Iminiums

Andrej Sterman et al.

Summary: A series of structurally diverse benzyl protected trifluoroborate-ammoniums were efficiently prepared by hydrogenation of corresponding trifluoroborate-iminiums using Crabtree's catalyst, with subsequent deprotections yielding alpha-aminoboronic acids. Initial experiments on asymmetric reactions showed a correlation between E/Z-ratio in the substrate and enantioselectivity, highlighting the potential of this method for accessing libraries of alpha-aminoboronic acid derivatives for medicinal chemistry applications and beyond.

Advances in Catalytic Asymmetric Dearomatization

Chao Zheng et al.

Summary: Catalytic asymmetric dearomatization is an emerging research subject that has attracted considerable attention for its direct transformation of aromatic feedstocks into structurally diverse polycyclic molecules. However, the inherent difficulty and high energy input required for dearomatization may be incompatible with the general conditions needed for asymmetric catalysis, presenting obstacles that need to be overcome for advancing chemical sciences.

Synthesis of Chiral α-Amino Tertiary Boronates via the Catalytic Enantioselective Nucleophilic Borylation of Dialkyl Ketimines

Koji Kubota et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel catalytic enantioselective nucleophilic borylation reaction of ketimines, leading to the efficient synthesis of optically active alpha-amino tertiary boronates with high enantioselectivity. The products can be further converted into peptidylboronic acid derivatives that are difficult to synthesize by other methods. Density functional theory calculations suggest that noncovalent interactions play a crucial role in determining the enantioselectivity of this reaction.
