Coupling effects of Zn single atom and high curvature supports for improved performance of CO2 reduction

Zhongjing Hao et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient synthesis method for preparing single atom Zn loading on N-doped carbon nano-onions, which exhibit excellent selectivity and stability in CO2 electro-reduction to CO. The increased curvature of carbon nano-onions support has been found to modify the surface charge and improve the selectivity for CO generation by changing the adsorption energies of key intermediates.

Designing Undercoordinated Ni-Nx and Fe-Nx on Holey Graphene for Electrochemical CO2 Conversion to Syngas

Josh Leverett et al.

Summary: In this study, a top-down approach was proposed for the controlled preparation of undercoordinated Ni-N-x and Fe-N-x catalysts within a holey graphene framework, for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction to synthesis gas. The findings demonstrated that these catalysts can be combined in any proportion to produce a desired syngas ratio, necessary for the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of liquid fuels and chemicals. The results also showed the potential of these catalysts for scale up, with high mass-normalized activity and stability in a high-throughput gas diffusion electrolyzer.

Atomically Dispersed s-Block Magnesium Sites for Electroreduction of CO2 to CO

Qiyou Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the construction of atomically dispersed magnesium atoms embedded in graphitic carbon nitride for CO2 electroreduction to CO. Theoretical calculations and experimental results show that the desorption of CO on Mg sites is easier compared to Fe and Co sites, leading to higher CO Faradaic efficiency and activity. This work sheds new light on the use of s-block metal sites for efficient CO2RR.

Revealing the Real Role of Nickel Decorated Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 to CO

Shuyu Liang et al.

Summary: While it is believed that single Ni atoms can efficiently promote CO2 electroreduction, recent studies have mistakenly suggested that nitrogen-doped carbon-encapsulated Ni NPs possess similar activity. However, systematic experiments and theoretical analyses have shown that this conclusion is incorrect, as the nitrogen-doped carbon-encapsulated Ni NPs are not active for CO2 electroreduction.
