Chiral Bronsted acid-controlled intermolecular asymmetric [2+2] photocycloadditions

Evan M. Sherbrook et al.

Summary: Control over stereochemistry in excited-state photoreactions is a challenge in organic synthesis. Recent research has shown that chiral Bronsted acids can serve as chromophore activators, enabling stereocontrol in [2+2] cycloadditions disfavored in reactions catalyzed by Lewis acids. This offers new insights into the design of highly enantioselective catalytic photoreactions.
