Self-Polymerization Promoting Monomers: In Situ Transformation of Disulfide-Linked Benzoxazines into the Thiazolidine Structure

Monisha Monisha et al.

Summary: The study successfully achieved low-energy one-step synthesis of polybenzoxazines through structural transformation of disulfide-linked bisbenzoxazine monomers, providing new insights into their application. Detailed investigation of the molecular-level kinetics of structural transformation in the monomers revealed that the thiazolidine-ring-containing monomers promote ring-opening polymerization at a low temperature, leading to similar polymer structures.

Oxazine Ring-Substituted 4th Generation Benzoxazine Monomers & Polymers: Stereoelectronic Effect of Phenyl Substituents on Thermal Properties

Sourav Mukherjee et al.

Summary: The regio-effect of oxazine ring substitution on thermal properties was studied in phenyl-substituted benzoxazines, revealing that 2,4-substituted benzoxazine monomers exhibited the lowest ROP temperature, least mass-loss, and lowest activation energy of polymerization. Selective positioning of groups in the oxazine ring can guide the structural designing of monomers for a wide variety of applications.

A truly bio-based benzoxazine derived from three natural reactants obtained under environmentally friendly conditions and its polymer properties

Irlaine Machado et al.

Summary: This study synthesized a truly bio-based benzoxazine for the first time, utilizing all three reactants from renewable sources, in contrast to previous research that mainly relied on two renewable sources. Additionally, the research introduced oxazine ring-substituted benzoxazines, offering greater flexibility in molecular design for benzoxazine resins.

The first observation on polymerization of 1,3-benzothiazines: synthesis of mono- and bis-thiazine monomers and thermal properties of their polymers

Seishi Ohashi et al.

Summary: A monofunctional 1,3-benzothiazine and a difunctional version have been synthesized and polymerized for the first time. Characterized by NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy, the cross-linked polybenzothiazine derived from the difunctional monomer exhibits excellent thermal properties. The development of polybenzothiazine aims to mimic benzoxazine's popular attributes while offering unique advantages such as higher flame retardancy and adhesiveness to metal substrates due to the inclusion of a characteristic sulfur atom in the polymer.
