Palladium-Catalyzed Low Pressure Carbonylation of Allylic Alcohols by Catalytic Anhydride Activation

Mathias Schelwies et al.

Summary: A direct carbonylation of allylic alcohols has been achieved for the first time with high catalyst activity at low CO pressure. The activation of the substrate by catalytic amounts of carboxylic anhydride, constantly regenerated with CO, plays a key role in the reaction. The identified reaction conditions are transferable to other substrates, opening up new possibilities in synthesis.
